Currently training with his coach and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the recent weeks - culminating in a closely contested competitive win over opponent Corentin Moutet.

It is his initial trophy following the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt from March of the previous year.

Success also means he has secured twenty-one titles at 21 various competitions.

"This victory is in tribute of my child her name, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

His defensive approach and recurring emotional displays on the tennis court had caused commentators to doubt if his ability to perform at the top level was concluded.

But the athlete has implemented adjustments in the past month, making an effort to approach the net and compete positively, reinforced by an better service.

He recovered from a deficit in the first set against the tricky opponent, taking 4 of the last five exchanges to go ahead.

The competitors swapped break points in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden tour victory, took control to push for a third set.

Moutet saved four early-game opportunities in a tight third set before the champion secured a break to that score to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev earned victory with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman incapable to manage a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
